#VeloDate: The start of something special
Posted: May 05 2015
I am thrilled to announce the launch of something we hope will charm and inspire people around the world this summer: #VeloDate
Since February, our small team has been collaborating with a Vancouver-based leather maker (Steven Enns) to design and produce a line of leather wine/growler holders for velos (bicycles en français). The velo holders are designed to help cyclists bring their wine/craft beer to dinner parties, picnics, beaches, urban rec. leagues, and pretty much any other event or occasion.
After months of prototypes, testing, and revisions we’ve crafted a line that’s charming, secure, and easy-to-use.
We focused on a clean one piece design that enables quick and simple set-up and dismount.
Simple, after-all, is beautiful.
To help us launch the velo holders we selectively reached out to Instagrammers from around the world whose style, photography, and energy inspired us. Once two IGers per city were identified, and keen to collaborate, we sent them a wine/growler holder and asked them to take us, through photography (lookbooks), on a #VeloDate.
More specifically, we asked them to pretend like we (the audience) were in a long-distance relationship with them, and that we were coming to visit them for one day. They had one day to charm, inspire, and help us fall in love with their city/town -- to entice us to move to them.
Where would they take us?
Who would they introduce us to?
What would they want us to experience?
The only condition we asked was that the date be by velo, hence #VeloDate.
*Side note, the Instagram community is an amazingly warm, positive and collaborative space. I’ve e-met so many wonderful, creative, and inspiring Instagrammers through this project already.
Every Thursday for the next 12 weeks Kent Street Apparel will release two #VeloDate lookbooks per city on our website + Instagram (@KentStreetApparel).
We start today with the place we call home: Vancouver, Canada with @joordanrenee + @viranlly. Next Thursday, in a nod to our roots, will be Kent, England with @howl_hemulen + @christielpy, and so forth :-)
Our hope, above everything else, is that this project charms and inspires people around the world. To seize the summer, to fall in love (perhaps again), & live life to its fullest.
I hope you join us on this journey by sharing your velo date adventures with us on Instagram (#VeloDate & tag: @KentStreetApparel).
Here's to the Summer of 2015!
